Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other marked cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they commented.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.
A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism made him stunned and had to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
